Two Beams House

Casa das Duas Vigas — Tibau do Sul (Pipa Beach), Brazil · built by Podium

The essential is enough.

The concept

A minimal beach house

The client asked for a minimal, conceptual beach house, with total design freedom — even in the choice of the plot. The answer was a new concept of beach house: lean, open and affordable to build.

Between the sea, the lagoon and the hillside, the house rests on the terrain “like something alighting”. Only the necessary is built — and that is where the beauty comes from.

The structure

Two beams, four columns

The architecture is born of a simple gesture: two beams and four columns. Reduced to the essential, the structure does not represent — it builds. It is the very drawing of the house.

Under the span, the void: a shaded shelter where the air flows free — at times a place of rest, at times of gathering. The interval that makes the architecture alive.

Two blocks, half levels

On a triangular plot of 409 m², the house is organized in two offset pavilions, the rear block raised about 1.5 m. The stepping guarantees the view of Pipa Beach from anywhere in the home.

In the upper pavilion, a terrace projects over the treetops: nature is not around the house — it is inside it. The tree is also a column; the wind, also a wall.

Three essential items

From anywhere in the house there are always three presences: view, ventilation and natural light. The level changes and the counterposed elements create a rich, continuous spatiality.

Concrete, glass, timber and metal do not hide: each element takes part in the construction as one same body, revealing the truth of what holds it up.
